Chemical Film
Alodine
The Chemical conversion process offers the several advantages over the Anodizing process. Chromate coversion layers are a very thin coating that provides several features. Chemical film is a cost effective alternative for anodizing when abrasion resistance is not required; it also has the added benefit of maintaining electrical conductivity which anodizing will not.
- Does not affect part dimension
- Enhanced corrosion resistance
- Enhanced adhesion of subsequent coating (paint, powdercoating)
- Electrically conductive
- Environmentally safer alternative
- Adds no weight
About the process
Chromate is an excellent primer-treatment for paint or adhesives since it increases the product’s ability to form a bond with the aluminum. It is often used in by the electronic industry because it provides corrosion resistance while remaining electrically conductive.
The color produced by this process vary, depending on the aluminum alloy being treated, surface conditions, and the type of chromate. A&E Anodizing currently offers both clear and gold Chromate.
